Three pikes over 100cm

The last time I was out fishing for pike was the weekend before Christmas. Actually I and Henrik were out for three days in a row and caught only one pike. We have had a nice fishing before all the snow fall down. But this weekend was the fishing very bad, probably because of the suddenly darkness below the ice. The pike doesn’t hunt as much as it used to do. The few bites we had were just pikes tasting the bait, but they didn’t take it. Very annoying! But one of our bait fishes had some nice bite marks, so we decided to go to this place again.

This Saturday was a nice day. I woke up in the morning and was very surprised of the warm weather. It isn’t usual up here with +1.5 C in January. Well we had a really nice day and caught totally six pikes. Four of them had an approved size and the lengths were 102, 101, 100 and 95 cm. The top weight was 7,32 kilo and caught by Henrik.

The first pike this ice fishing season

It is winter now in the west part of Swedish Lapland, but not here at the coast. All the snow rained away today. But me and my friends think that's good, because then we will have a better start of the ice fishing season. The reason to that is less snow on the ice and more light under, for the pikes hunt.

Today was me and Henrik out for the first ice fishing for pike this autumn. We had our friend Anton with us. He had never been ice fishing for pike before, so this was like a kind of guiding. Anton didn't have any equipment, so I let him use mine. Instead, I hide behind the camera all day. I and Henrik taught Anton how to do and soon should the first pike be caught.

The bait of the day was dead roach, which worked fine! The first fish on the hook was Anton’s, and he caught a nice one at 111 cm. But the pike was unfortunately very thin and weight only 7,61 kilo. No sad faces, a new personal record for Anton and a great start of the season.

During the day we caught a couple of pikes between 3 and 5 kilo!

Softbait trolling

I have recently begun working at a full time job, which means that there is less time for fishing. But this weekend I was out with my friend Henrik, at a very nice lake.

We started to hunt for the pikes by trolling at deep water. We had just put out two rods, when we had the first strike of the day. It was a fine fish around four kilos and a great start! But then we didn’t have any more strikes at all and we decided to go into the shore for some lunch. Some hamburgers were really nice a windy and cold day like this. We spoke about tactics and what we were going to do next.

Our new plan was to go with the highest possible speed to a bay. In this bay the depth was around 3-4 meters in general. Instead of trolling with wobblers, we used softbaits. We succeeded and caught two nice pikes. The first one weight 7,54 kg and was 99 cm long. The other one weight 8,24 kg and was 102 cm long. I was lucky to take both of them.

Fishing for the big ones

This time I was actually not out for the reason to find new guiding waters. I really wanted to catch a big grayling, so me and my friend Kalle went to a lake that I knew was famous for its great graylings. But this was plan B. The first plan was a little bit more exiting. We were going to a couple of lakes I think have even bigger graylings. But now when the time had come, the weather was pretty nasty. It was really cold and it should be raining the whole week. So we decided to stay at the first lake, so we could sleep in a cosy cabin.

The fishing was not so good that we thought. I think that it was too cold and the graylings got passive. But the pikes loved our baits. But we refused to give up, and fought in to the last day. The top three: 1,5 kg/53 cm - 1,32 kg/52 cm - 1,3 kg/51 cm

Maybe this is a new guiding water. At least for the guests who only want to catch big fishes, and not many. But I think anyway, that the summer is a better time for this kind of fishing. The autumn have arrived to the Swedish Lapland now!

Test fishing in a couple of lakes

Last Saturday me and my trainee from the SportfishingAcademy went for some days of test fishing in the area of Kronogård Vildmark. This huge area is full of small lakes with both plenty of fish and sometimes nothing at all. You really have to find your own lovely little spot. When my grandfather droped us of, the rain falled down and the thunder was just above us. Both me and Elias got wet and we had to dry our stuff. That's why we choiced to sleep in a cabin the first night. I can promise you that I really loved the mosquitos that night...

Day two, and we hadn't found any good places. But we had succeded to caught some fishes, like perch and trout, wich became today's dinner. Fish, potato, chanterelle, red onion and some butter in a package of folie over the fire... Mmm, that tasted amazing! This night we slept in my tent, and it was in fact really comfortable!

The last day we actually had nice weather. It was sunny and clear. This day we founded a lake with a nice population of brook trout. There were in all sizes, wich is a sign of rejuvenation. This is a lake that I definately could go to with guests! When we were going home, we stopped by a bigger lake to eat and make som casts. But no fish! While I was making some food over the fire, Elias screamed! He saw a huge char swimming after his bait and then turn around. He told me that the fish had to weigh at least 4 kg. I saw the true fear in Elias eyes, he was broken inside!
