Fishing in Ystad-Österlen region

From the town of Ystad (of inspector Kurt Wallander fame), the coastline here fringes the Baltic Sea for 100 km to Hanö Bay on the eastern seaboard of the Österlen province in southern Sweden. Getting here is easy – just one hour by car or train from Copenhagen International Airport in Kastrup. So, why come here to fish? How about trolling ’Äppelkusten’ (the Apple Coast) for big fat salmon and sea trout? There is a world-class wreck and reef fishing scene here too. And deep sea fishing? Huge salmon (+20 kilos) are landed regularly here, so don’t be surprised (OK - do) if you bring one it at 10 kilos plus.

Going inland, the lakes here are brimming with pike (+20 kilos apparently), pike perch and perch. That’s just a taste of what’s on offer. While you are here, don’t miss the charming towns of Ystad and Simrishamn, the beaches at Sandhammaren and Löderup, the old fishing village of Kåseberga, the market town of Kivik or Stenhuvud National Park. Accommodation: The region offers everything from B&B to exclusive manor house accommodation.
