Tjuonajokk Camp is located by river Kaitumälven and is the only fishing camp in the vicinity. That is one reason why angling on Kaitumälven has been able to maintain its excellent standards over the years. In its breath-taking mountain setting - with snow-capped peaks - the varied fishing options offered by the camp are outstanding. Tjuonajokk Camp is only accessible by helicopter or hydroplane.


At Tjuonajokk Fishing Camp we speak Swedish, English and German.


The season starts at the end of June and ends in the beginning of September. The entire season offer good fishing, with least pressure in the beginning and end of the season. Grayling fishing is steady all weeks, and same for the pike. The big trout start to move later in the season when they head for the spawning grounds.

Other activities

The camp surroundings are a paradise for non-fishing travel companions. Nature lovers can set off to pick berries and collect mushrooms or simply ramble through the unspoilt landscape.

Additional information

Wading boots with studs are not allowed in Tjuonajokk. We encourage use of barbless hooks. Mosquitos are simply a part of life in Lapland! But not to worry, a light rain or wind is enough to keep them at bay. Otherwise, the camp can supply you with the most effective insect repellent.



River Kaitumälven is famous for its world class population of grayling, and the biggest fish caught is over 2 kg. Brown trout is found in many places and specimens around 70 cm is caught every year. Char is found in some areas, especially early in the season when water is cool. Finally pike up to 100 cm, both in lake Kaitumsjön and the small lakes in the valley.


The Camp Restaurant offers regional specialities and an opportunity to wine and dine in fine style, even in this remote region of Lapland. There is a small shop with tackle, flies and other essentials. We have a fleet of rental boats which are recommended for easy transportation up and down the river. Fishing equipment

Fly fishing: 9-10 ft, 5-7 weight single handed rod, with sinking and floating line on reel with 50 yds of backing. Leader: 4-12 lb. Fly patterns: brown, grey and dark-hued caddis, hook size 10-16. Klinkhammer patterns with beige, orange and olive bodies, and dark hackles. Nymph patterns such as Pheasant Tail, Partridge & Orange, Hare´s Ear Gold Heads etc.

Fishing regulations

You need a valid fishing license to fish in river Kaitumälven by Tjuonajokk. We strongly recommend Catch & Release, and an occasional fish can be kept and consumed while in camp, but no fish are allowed to be brought home.



The camp has more than a dozen Log Cabins, furnished with gas stove, tables, chairs and bunk beds. The Cabins have heating facilities and offer full country comfort. The central camp building houses a small Store which stocks food and drink, souvenirs, and a full range of fishing tackle. In the same building is the Camp Restaurant, which offers regional specialities and an opportunity to wine and dine in fine style, even in this remote region of Lapland. And naturally, the Camp also has its own fully equipped Sauna Unit.


Location & transfer

Tjuonajokk Fishing Camp is located in Swedish Lapland some 50 km southwest of the town of Kiruna. There is no road to the camp and the transfer is 30 minutes by helicopter from Kiruna Airport.
